The Story of Brian Gittens

Documentary

Director / Editor / Cinematographer

Before 1989, the elite private boarding school Phillips Academy Andover held classes on Martin Luther King Day, acknowledging the day only with a brief, optional meeting in the chapel during the evening once classes and extracurriculars had concluded. Brian Gittens, a senior, was not satisfied and led a school-wide sit-in to protest the school's decision to hold classes on Dr. King's day. The result? Regular classes are now replaced with multicultural seminars, and keynote speakers to educate the student body on the core teachings of Dr. King.
